Discussions are in the works to overhaul the city’s red-light camera system. Some argue there is no deterrent effect and that the city stands to make money, thereby filling their coffers…. Alderman Burke is trying to introduce a measure that would require drivers to be required to attend driving school in exchange for fines being lowered. The problem with this? Driving school costs money, too… so the city still makes money. Other cities in other states have done away with red-light cameras altogether citing that they have no deterrent effect. All in all, the Alderman’s proposal sounds fishy to me…
