Patience is a virtue….

Especially once you find out that the person you are threatening is a uniformed officer of the law. In this case, the driver didn’t heed the Sheriff’s warning when that Sheriff displayed both his badge and vest complete with radio while announcing his office. Not even the Sheriff’s drawing of his service weapon deterred Mr. Guiterrez-Cabrera from trying to run down the Deputy at the gas pump.

Chicago Tribune

“…Ross, a 14-year veteran of the sheriff’s police, was standing next to one of the 24 pumps at the station after refueling, talking to another gang investigator at a second pump, when he felt something behind him, according to the release.

Ross found that Gutierrez-Cabrera had come within inches of hitting his leg with his 2001 Buick Century. Gutierrez-Cabrera backed up and sped at the officer again, stopping within inches of the officer, according to the release.

After Ross yelled at Gutierrez-Cabrera to stop and identified himself as a police officer–even opening his jacket to show his badge, body armor and police radio–Gutierrez-Cabrera still sped toward him again, according to police. The officer jumped out of the way, but Gutierrez-Cabrera turned his wheels toward the officer and again stepped on the gas.

Ross responded by pulling his gun and ordering Gutierrez-Cabrera to get out of the car, police said…”

Mr. Guiterrez-Cabrera, you had to have known you were driving without a drivers license or insurance. Just where did you need to get to so quickly that you had to try to run down a Sheriff’s Deputy??? Had you been more patient, you wouldn’t have gotten caught. At least probably not anytime soon…

It amazes me how many people out there violate the law by driving without a license or insurance. It takes someone especially brazen to test the limits of the law and behave as Mr. Guiterrez-Cabrera did. Not a good idea if your objective is to not get caught. You can read more about the incident here as reported in the Chicago Tribune.

If you happen to read this post, give me a call. I’d be happy to represent you in court.
