New Jersey Supreme Court Among the First to Make Changes Regarding Eyewitness ID’s

As a follow up to an earlier post this week on eyewitness testimony, the New Jersey Supreme Court has issued new rules regarding eyewitness identifications. They have acknowledged a lack of reliability in some eyewitness testimony and are now mandated to provide an explanation to the jury if the defense presents evidence that a witnesses identification of a suspect has been influenced by one of several outside factors.

In this New York Times article, New Jersey’s new rules are explained in more detail.

A trailblazer in the field of criminal law, New Jersey is among the first to enjoy these changes. Let’s hope the rest of the nation follow suit.
